IMPORTANT NOTICE: TO ALL SUPPORTERS OF THE HALT THE SALT CAMPAIGN
EPA OPINION ON SALT PROJECT TO BE PUBLICLY RELEASED DURING
JULY
Our fight to save Exmouth Gulf is about to enter a critical
stage and the assistance of all our supporters will be vital
over the next month.
The Halt the Salt Alliance has been advised that the Environmental
Protection Authority will be releasing its formal opinion
on the salt project during July.
The EPA Bulletin is extremely important because it will be
our first indication of the advice that will be provided to
the State Government.
Once the EPA Bulletin is released there will be a two-week
period when Appeals can be lodged. The Appeals Convenor then
hears these Appeals and can seek further information before
making a final recommendation to the Environment Minister.
If the EPA indicates support for the project going ahead the
Alliance will mount a vigorous Appeal on the community’s
behalf. If the EPA indicates it doesn’t support the
project then we can expect the company to also mount an Appeal.
In either scenario we will need all our supporters to make
their views known quickly and strongly to Western Australian
Premier Alan Carpenter and his Environment Minister David
Templeman.
The Alliance remains confident that we have mounted a strong
argument against the project citing overwhelming scientific
evidence that the environmental risks to this pristine ecosystem
are too great.
Whatever happens, we must continue to make our views strongly
known to the Premier and his Ministers. If we don’t
raise our voices, there is a real danger that this unique
environment may suffer for generations to come.
At this stage we are asking all supporters to please
be prepared. We will inform you of the exact timeframe
for the Bulletin’s release and how you can make representations
to the Minister, the Premier and other MPs during the coming
Appeals process.
As this will be a new representation, all previous submitters
will be able to make a new submission. The campaign very much
hopes that you will again do that when the Bulletin is released
and we can prepare an appropriate response.
Your support is vital to the success of the campaign. Please
prepare to act during July!

What you can do to
support the campaign
Growing numbers of people from Australia and overseas, determined to help protect this unique environment, are making their views known to the Western Australian Government.
Personalised letters, faxes or phone calls to politicians are also very important and the Alliance website has a full list of contact details.
Another good way of putting your views across is to write a Letter to the Editor and again the Alliance has details of how to make contact with the State’s major newspapers or you can spread the word via your own local community newspaper
You can find out more about the extensive support for the campaign by visiting the About Us and Links sections on the website.
Email
your friends and associates asking them to participate.
